NDA Teams Succeed at S.T.E.M. Competition

Notre Dame Academy’s JETS club (Junior Engineering Technology Society) had three teams participate in the TEAMS competition this year. All three teams did exceptionally well under the direction of NDA science teacher Diane Goldcamp.

The theme of the event was “Engineering the Tools of Innovation” which allowed students to deepen their knowledge of the tools engineers use to solve problems. Students researched many topics prior to the competition, including energy efficiency, Genomics: sequencing DNA, Optical Physics, semiconductor materials, and the Six Sigma Manufacturing Methods.

At the TEAMS competition, members on these teams collaborate in small groups of eight students to complete a test consisting of two parts; a Multiple-Choice test, and written essays on these engineering topics. The Multiple Choice Part of the test, Part I, was scored on-site and students were aware of their results. The Essays, Part II, are scored at a later time. A third component this year included an observation of how the students work together to solve an engineering problem.

The results for the Freshman-Sophomore Team: Libby Roebker, Onali Fernando, Maya Decker, Megan Bezold, Carissa Jones, Haley Planicka, Angela Kyntchev, and Emily Thaman.
