ART   High School Summer Studio Art 2020sun

The High School Summer Studio Art Class is still going to happen, the dates are the same and the times are the same, but we’re incorporating some measures to ensure the safety of the students. We will be splitting the class into 2 sections, (Section A and Section B) and will be rotating the days when each section meets to limit the amount of students who are physically present in the studio. While one section is working in studio, the other section will be working from home giving each section 10 days in the studio, and 10 days working remotely. If any student or family is uncomfortable with being in the studio, we will also provide an option to complete the course entirely from home by offering live instruction, pre-recorded demos, and Google Meets during class where any student will have the opportunity for instruction.

  • Forms and payment are due by Friday May 29th
  • Class runs Monday thru Friday of each week, 8:30am – 11:30am
  • Any scheduling conflicts (vacation, camps, sports camps) can easily be worked out
  • if I am notified prior to the class.
  • If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at
  • If AP students, future AP students, and students interested in applying for Governor School for the Arts take the summer course, their assignments will be individualized.
WEEK 1: 2D OR NOT 2D July 6th – July 10th

Week 1 takes a basic look at some 2D techniques. We will be learning a series of dry medium and drawing techniques. Mediums may include pencil, colored pencil, oil pastels, chalk pastels, and charcoal. Other concepts covered will include alternate surfaces and alternate sizes ranging from the very small, to large, to organic shaped surfaces. We will also be studying Op Art works by artists such as Sol Lewitt and Kristin Farr.

WEEK 4: Mixed Media Week July 27th – July 31st

This week we will be taking a more contemporary look at Art. We will be learning how to make Art out of anything and everything. Nothing is safe from possibly being adhered to, nailed on, drawn with, or painted over. We will be working with mixed media, some sculpture, and also how to integrate the two. A mess will be made, a different type of Art will be created, but fun will be had. Artists that we will look at will be Louise Nevelson, Jasper Johns, and Robert Rauschenberg.
