Sophomore Information

SOPHOMORE CLASS INFORMATION 2019-20
Welcome to the Sophomore year! Each year brings many opportunities for our students and parents
to participate in various events, some of which are described below. 
  • Picture Day Sept. 6 - Students may be out of uniform for their school picture. However, they may not wear a V-neck or any low cut top, or one that has writing on it. Shorts or skirts must be of appropriate length. Students will bring home a flier prior to Sept. 6th and payment for picture is expected on Picture Day. Students will still need to have picture taken if not buying a packet to get school ID.
  • Mini Night Sept.11 - Parents have the opportunity to be students for the night! At 7:00pm parents follow their daughter’s schedule as each teacher explains his or her curriculum and expectations. Your daughter will provide a schedule for you to follow that evening.
  • CERT Oct. 4 & March 24 - The College Equipped Readiness Test (CERT) is an online assessment used to help students get ready for the ACT. CERT tests are age appropriate and address the content areas included in the ACT: English, Math, Reading and Science. The tests also match the format of the ACT including timing, question types and difficulty levels. The test is given to sophomores once in the Fall and another time in the Spring. Students and parents can go online and see the results of the test and be given detailed video instructions for each answer.
  • PSAT Oct.16 - This test is the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test, which is a practice for the SAT. It determines National Merit Finalists at the junior level and is used as a practice at the sophomore level. Students will take this test in the morning during the school day.
  • Parent/Student/TeacherConferences Oct. 3 - Parents will have the opportunity to schedule a ten-minute appointments with any of your daughter’s teachers. School dismisses at 2:00 pm. and conferences will be held from 2:30 until 8:00pm
  • Grandparent Mass Oct. 4 – All students may invite their grandparents to attend mass in the gym from 1:30-3:03pm. Parking will be available for guests in the school lot.
  • Mother/Daughter Dance Nov. 9 - This event is sponsored by the Panda Parent Club and is held in the evening at Receptions in Erlanger from 7:00-11:00. It includes food, fun, and dancing. Tickets will be sold in advance. Photos are available for purchase through Lifetouch. According to Diocesan Policy, alcohol may not be served or consumed at this event.
  • Retreat Dec.4 - Students will report to school at 9am, and the retreat will conclude by 3:00pm. The Sophomore class retreat is held at NDA and The Heights and focuses on Marian spirituality by reflecting on scripture/rosary and applying it to their everyday lives. The retreat consists of talks, small group sessions, activities and prayer service. All Sophomores are required to attend this retreat. 
  • Silver Bells Dec. 14 – 8:00-11:00pm This is a semi formal dance for Sophomores throughSeniors and held at NDA. Appropriate attire is required. This is a drug and alcohol free event and random breathalyzing will occur.
  • Exams Dec. 18-20 - Students will follow a special half-day schedule each of these days in order to have an exam in each of their classes.
  • Father/Daughter Dance Feb. 7 - This event is sponsored by the PPC and held at Receptions in Erlanger from 7:00-11:00pm. It includes food, fun, and dancing. Tickets will be sold in advance. Photos are available for purchase through Lifetouch. According to Diocesan Policy, alcohol may not be served or consumed at this event.
  • Class Ring Jan. 10 – A Herff Jones rep will meet with the Sophomores during homeroom to explain ring ordering options. Herff Jones will return to NDA to take ring orders from 3:00-7:00pm on Jan. 14 and then again during the lunches on Jan. 15. Purchasing class rings is optional.
  • Ring Ceremony April 1 - All Sophomores and their parents are invited to the celebration of the sophomores becoming upper class women. The event will be held from 7:00-8:30pm. in the Theatre. If a student did not order a ring, she will receive a NDA pendant. There will be a reception following the ceremony.
  • Academic Awards May 14 - Students who have won scholarships, first honors, state or national recognition, and their parents, are invited to attend this event held at NDA from 7:00-8:30pm. A reception follows the ceremony.
  • Final Exams May 26-28 - Students will follow a special half-day schedule each of these days in order to have an exam in each of their classes.
  • Cleaning Day May 29 – All Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors are required to come to NDA for one hour of cleaning. All students share in ownership of the school and are expected to care for it as well.
OTHER EVENTS:
  • Scheduling January begins the scheduling process for the following year. Sophomores and their parents will be invited to attend an information meeting, and all sophomores will meet during a homeroom period to discuss course options. The various departments recommend students for a specific course and level (college prep, honors, AP), and students and parents receive a tentative schedule at the meeting.
  • Service Sophomores are expected to complete 15 hours of service by the end of the 3rd quarter. Students will be responsible for planning this service on their own which meet specific criteria. The main guideline is that the service be done in/with a non-profit social agency/event that clearly supports the needs of others. Opportunities that are pre-approved for Sophomore service will be provided throughout the year. A full list of requirements will be explained to the sophomores in their religion classes the first few weeks of school and are located on the website.
