Students at Notre Dame Academy collected $975.00 today for victims of Hurricane Sandy. The money was raised through a “Dress Down Day” sponsored by NDA’s Interact Club. Students were permitted to dress out of their usual uniform today if they donated $3.00 NDA’s Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. More than half of NDA’s students came to school comfortably dressed to help out with this worthy cause.
The sponsor of today’s Dress Down Day was NDA’s Interact Club. This club is open to students of all grade levels and offers many opportunities for service as well as networking with area business leaders, entrepreneurs, professors and community leaders. NDA’s Interact Club partners directly with the Kenton County Rotary Club. Interact is the student arm of Rotary International and is comprised of nearly 200,000 young people from countries around the world.
Notre Dame’s young Interact Club has accomplished a great deal since its inception just two years ago. Notably, they have thrown a party for retired Sisters of Notre Dame, donated $1000 to the Women’s Crisis Center of Northern Kentucky, knitted scarves for an area clothing bank, distributed gifts for a Christmas toy drive, established a pen-pal program with students in Tanzania, and made get well cards for patients at area hospitals. This school year has gotten off to a great start as they have raised more than $120 to support Rotary International’s efforts to eradicate polio. They did this by selling used locker shelves and book covers that were donated by our graduating seniors this past May. The club’s next event is a Hygiene Drive at the end of November to benefit BeConcerned.
