Rowing

Crew is a year round sport, but the peak season is the spring. Notre Dame athletes have the opportunity to participate through the Cincinnati Junior Rowing Club. Practices are held daily immediately following school for two hours, plus a Saturday morning practice. Spring and fall practice time includes carrying boats, motors & launches down to the shoreline. Rowers practice out of the Licking River Boathouse located under the Fifth Street Bridge in Newport. In the winter season, indoor training happens at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse (underneath the restaurant.) Regattas are held at Harsha Lake in East Fork State Park, as well as other rowing venues including Columbus, Oak Ridge, & Indianapolis.

Rowing opportunities exist for girls at all points in their high school careers, as many colleges recruit freshman “to walk-on” the team, since they never seem to have enough girls to fill the spots. Rowing requires strength, skill & determination to earn a seat in a top boat. Coxswain positions are also available for petite girls with strong personalities who can command and motivate the rowers and steer the boats. More information is available on the CJRC web site www.cjrc.net.

An informational meeting will be held  February 23, 2011 at Montgomery Inn Boathouse 7:00pm for all those interested in participating.
